Bio: Stephanie Taylor, MD, M Arch
After receiving my MD from Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts in 1984, I practiced clinical medicine and did academic research in cellular growth mechanisms for the next several decades.
During this time, I became increasingly concerned about new infections that harmed many patients during their hospitalizations for unrelated issues. Determined to gain a better understanding of the role of the hospital building in patient outcomes, I returned to school and obtained my master’s degree in Architecture from Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont.
After several years working in an architecture firm which focused on hospital design, I founded Taylor Healthcare Consulting, Inc., a physician-led company that specializes in designing, building and maintaining hospitals and other commercial buildings for optimal occupant health and productivity.
In 2020, my colleagues and I founded Building4Health, Inc. Our company mission is to make visible indoor factors that affect building occupant health, thereby revealing strategies for buildings to prioritize the most valuable asset, the occupant.
Dr. Taylor now works as an international consultant and research leader to better understand how the design and operation all building types impact occupant health.
She has published in Nature, Science and other peer reviewed journals, is a Distinguished Lecturer for ASHRAE and a columnist for Engineered Systems magazine. She received the, "Women to Watch in the HVAC Industry" award in 2019. She is a member of the ASHRAE Environmental Health Committee, the ASHRAE Epidemic Task Force and Harvard Medical School’s Incite Health Fellowship.
